Bears coaching search has CFL ties

One is an outstanding CFL coach, the other a former star CFL quarterback.

And now, both men are candidates for the vacant head coaching position of the fabled Chicago Bears.

Indeed, both Montreal Alouettes head man Marc Trestman and Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements are on the radar of the Bears, who fired long-time coach Lovie Smith this past Monday.

Other than their Canadian Football League ties, of course, the common thread between Trestman and Clements is their common expertise on the offensive side of the ball. Both men are known for their creativity and imagination, something that the Bears were lacking in the Smith era, in which Chicago finished in the top 15 offesnively just once in nine seasons.

According to the NFL Network, the Bears have plans to interview Trestman, who has led the Als to Grey Cup victories in 2009 and 2010 during his five years in Montreal. While Trestman remains under contract with Montreal, a source close to t
