Cowboys' Brent indicted on manslaughter charge
By MIKE ZEISBERGER, QMI Agency
While his Dallas Cowboy teammates prepare for their battle against the Washington Redskins on Sunday with the winner clinching the NFC East title, Josh Brent is in for a much tougher battle.
A grand jury in Texas formally indicted the Cowboys nose tackle on Wednesday on one count of intoxication manslaughter. Brent is charged in connection with a Dec. 8 crash that killed his friend, Cowboys practice squad member Jerry Brown.
Brent is out of jail on $100,000 US bond.
Police in Irving, Tex., say Brent was speeding when his vehicle slammed into a curb and flipped over. Brown was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Intoxication manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Officials indicate no court dates have been scheduled. Brown could be eligible for probation but it is far too soon to speculate on that.
