The Immaculate Reception: 40 years later

In the shadows of nearby Heinz Field, there is no turf, no field, not even a stadium left anymore to mark The Spot where the NFL’s most memorable play took place, long since replaced by the concrete and asphalt of Pittsburgh’s West General Robinson St. and the adjoining parking lots.

But on Saturday, some four decades after The Immaculate Reception became part of football folklore, The Spot will be highlighted by a symbol for generations of football fans to enjoy.

With Frenchy Fuqua and Franco Harris on hand, a monument will be unveiled on The Spot, the precise location where Harris scooped up a deflected pass from his shoe tops and rumbled for arguably the most famous touchdown in pro football history.

The ceremony is part of the weekend-long festivities the city and the Steelers are holding in honour of the Immaculate Reception, which celebrates its 40th Anniversary on Sunday.
