Brees sets new TD-streak record

It didn’t take Drew Brees long Sunday night to break Johnny Unitas’ long-standing record for consecutive games with a touchdown pass (48).

With 3:05 remaining in the first quarter against the visiting San Diego Chargers, Brees hooked up with Devery Henderson for 40 yards and the history-making score.

Brees had tied the record last week in Green Bay.

The NFL allowed the three key Saints officials currently suspended for their roles in the bounty scandal – head coach Sean Payton, GM Mickey Loomis and assistant coach Joe Vitt – to watch the game from private boxes. It’s a one-game exception, honouring Brees’ request.

Unitas son, Joe, was on hand as well. Unitas died in 2002.

“Congrats to @drewbrees & his teammates on breaking Unitas’ record,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell tweeted. “Amazing accomplishment by great QB & leader. We’re proud of you, Drew@.”

Unitas set the record with the Baltimore Colts from 1956-60.

Brees threw another touchdown before halftime.

Is first round pick Eric Fisher a decent choice by the Kansas City Chiefs?
  Yes.
  No.
He has to prove himself before I decide.
