DAVIE, FLA. - Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said his decision to release wide receiver Chad Johnson on Sunday night "was not an easy one."

The Dolphins terminated the contract of Johnson following his arrest for allegedly head-butting his wife during an argument on Saturday night.

Johnson was released from Broward County jail earlier Sunday, one day after his arrest on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

He posted a $2,500 bond following a court hearing and was also ordered to stay away from his wife, Evelyn Lozada.

"With any type of these decisions, it was not an easy one," Philbin said on Monday. "It was not reactive nor was it based on one single incident."

Johnson signed with the Dolphins this offseason after spending last season with the New England Patriots.

The 34-year-old veteran played his first 10 seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals and has 766 career catches for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns.

"It didn't feel like, to me, that the fit was going to be right for the organization," Philbin added.

Is first round pick Eric Fisher a decent choice by the Kansas City Chiefs?
  Yes.
  No.
He has to prove himself before I decide.
