PITTSBURGH - Kordell Stewart, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2005, officially retired on Wednesday.

The former quarterback was at the training facility of the Pittsburgh Steelers to retire as a member of the team.

Stewart said he "just wanted some closure with my NFL career," according to the Steelers' website, which said Stewart met with the Rooney family, staff and coaches of the team where he played the bulk of his 11-year career.

He passed for 14,746 yards, 77 touchdowns and 84 interceptions in 125 games, most of them with the Steelers from 1995-2002. He played for the Chicago Bears in 2003 and spent two seasons in a backup role for the Baltimore Ravens.
