Tampa, FL - Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton rushed for three touchdowns in Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, giving him 13 this season and establishing a new NFL record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a single season.

The record-breaking score came in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run, giving the Panthers a 38-12 lead.

Newton, the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner, scored his 11th and 12th touchdowns of the year earlier in the game, also on a pair of one-yard runs.

The previous mark was 12, set by former Patriot quarterback Steve Grogan in 1976.
