ASHBURN, VA. - The Washington Redskins placed tight end Chris Cooley on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday.

In addition, the Washington Post reported that running back Tim Hightower was also placed on IR.

Hightower suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Sunday's loss at Carolina, and head coach Mike Shanahan said he was going to miss the remainder of the season.

The fourth-year back totaled 88 yards on 17 carries in the setback, and racked up 321 yards and one touchdown on 84 attempts in five games this year.

Cooley suffered a broken index finger of his left hand two Sundays ago in Washington's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and was primed to miss at least a month while recovering. He was also bothered by a left knee issue since the start of the season.

The 29-year-old posted eight receptions for 65 yards in five appearances for Washington in 2011.
