Charlotte, NC - Cam Newton's 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end Greg Olsen with 4:20 remaining lifted the Carolina Panthers over the Jacksonville Jaguars, 16-10.

Newton completed 18-of-34 passes for 158 yards for the Panthers (1-2), who lost to Arizona and Green Bay to start the season.

The Auburn product has thrown for 1,012 yards in his first three NFL games, becoming the first rookie in league history to accomplish that feat.

Jonathan Stewart carried the ball 10 times for 59 yards. Olsen hauled in seven passes for 57 yards.

Blaine Gabbert, the 10th overall pick in this year's draft, connected on 12- of-21 passes for 139 yards, one touchdown and an interception in his first career start.

The Jaguars (1-2) decided to switch quarterbacks this week after Luke McCown had a 1.8 passer rating in last Sunday's 32-3 loss to the Jets.

Maurice Jones-Drew carried the ball 24 times for 122 yards. He also caught three passes for 45 yards.
