Texans' Foster expected to play Sunday

Houston doesn't have a problem but Miami probably does.

Star running back Arian Foster is expected to return to the lineup on Sunday when the Texans take on the Dolphins.

"He looks ready to play," Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said Friday after watching Foster practice.

"He's had a good week, I think he'll be fine."

Of course, Kubiak had uttered similar thoughts late in the pre-season when Foster suffered an injury which kept him out for Week 1.

Foster, who led the NFL in rushing yardage last season, is not expected to see a full workload. Derrick Ward started against Indianapolis last week and got a touchdown, but sprained his ankle and is out.

Third string running back Ben Tate rushed for 116 yards against Indianapolis and will share the assignment with Foster.

"Both of those guys will play and Steve (Slaton) is available if we need a third guy," Kubiak added.

The Dolphins might be in trouble. The Texans lit up the Colts even without Foster, while the Dolphins got carved up by Tom Brady and the firing on all cylinders New England Patriots.

Miami head coach Tony Sparano would not talk about last week.

"On to Houston," was his reply to any questions on the subject.

Miami's owner said this week that he wasn't pleased with the defence.

With good reason. Any time an opposing quarterback throws for over 500 yards, something is wrong.

It was a surprising letdown for the Dolphins, given that the team had the NFL's sixth-best defence a year ago, allowing just 20.8 points and 309.3 yards of offence per game.

Against New England the numbers were 38 points and 622 yards.

Former CFL star Cameron Wake and his mates must do a lot better in order to avoid an 0-2 start.

That won't be easy.

Houston's offence was third in the league last season and looks just as dangerous this time around.

EXTENSION FOR FLOWERS

It looks like Eric Berry and Brandon Flowers will play together again after all.

That was in question after Berry, the Kansas City Chiefs safety was lost for the season with a torn ACL last week.

Flowers was to be a free agent after the season, but has signed an extension, according to the Kansas City Star.

The cornerback was a second- round pick in 2008 and has started ever since.

QUICK HITS

Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Buffalo Bills are talking extension, according to Buffalo's WGR Sports Radio 550. However, a deal is not expected to be completed anytime soon. In other Bills news, owner Ralph Wilson will miss his first home opener in the 52 years he has owned the club. According to the Buffalo News, Wilson, 92, has not recovered fast enough from hip surgery ... Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor and Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo have been fined $15,000 U.S. Taylor for head-butting, Ayanbadejo for horse-collaring Antonio Brown ... Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher has returned to practice after leaving earlier this week following the sudden death of his mother, Lavoyda ... The NFL has "enhanced" its pat-down procedure after a stun gun made it inside a stadium and was used in a fight ... Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has backtracked. Jones no longer says Dez Bryant will play for sure this week. Bryant missed practice on Friday due to a quad injury and will need to get a lot better quickly in order to suit up ... Jacksonville will be without starters Derek Cox and Aaron Kampman against the New York Jets. Tight end Marcedes Lewis and receiver Jason Hill are doubtful and not expected to play either ... The New York Giants might get Justin Tuck and Hakeem Nicks back this week. Both practiced on Friday, with wide receiver Nicks considered the more likely of the two to suit up. Tuck said "my gut was wrong once" (he said he would play last week), but said he felt like he would play against Denver on Sunday ... At least Todd Haley is honest. When the Kansas City head coach was asked how his offensive lineman will handle Detroit behemoth Ndamukong Suh, Haley said he wasn't sure. "Some of the problems that Suh presents I don't know there are answers for, to be quite honest with you," Haley said. "This guy's a dominant inside player that can really disrupt the game plan if you let him, and you just got to find ways to not allow that to happen" ... Wide receiver Sidney Rice is not expected to be able to play against Pittsburgh ... New England has signed linebacker Rob Ninkovich to a two-year, $4 million extension ... Buffalo got some props, but also a warning from Oakland defensive lineman Tommy Kelly. "Oh yeah, it caught everybody's attention around the league," Kelly told Buffalobills.comabout Week 1's 41-7 victory over Kansas City. But? "Whatever they did is a nice impressive victory, but they've got to come and deal with us now. And we ain't the Chiefs," Kelly said ... The NFL Network reports that 36-year-old free agent safety Darren Sharper will try out for the Broncos on Tuesday. Sharper had a tough outing when New Orleans was defeated by Seattle in the playoffs.

MOSS SHOOTS DOWN PATRIOTS RUMOUR

A rumour had surfaced earlier this month that Randy Moss was pondering a return to the NFL with the New England Patriots.

Scratch that. At least for now.

"No, I'm done," Moss told Boston radio station WEEI while out golfing in Bellingham, Mass., on Thursday.

Quarterback Tom Brady had said that he would be OK with a Moss return, even though the wide receiver's attitude had forced the club to part ways with him, despite his stellar play.

Moss declined to say more on the subject.

"I'm just here golfing, minding my business."

Moss played his best football for the Patriots.

He caught a career-best 23 touchdowns for the club in 2007 and caught 50 of his 153 career touchdowns as a Patriot in 31/4 seasons there.

Brady had called Moss "one of the greatest wide receivers in the history of the game, one of the greater players I've ever had the chance to play with."

Brady said, "you never know," when queried about a reunion, before adding he had seen more star receivers move on than come back.

Add Moss to the list. But stranger things have happened.
