TORONTO - Chad Ochocinco knows some people already consider him a bust as a Patriot.
He’s aware there has been some speculation that New England regrets bringing him in.
He doesn’t buy it.
“I’ve heard small little rumblings that I haven’t caught on yet,” Ochocinco told reporters on Tuesday.
“I’m doing just fine. I’m not sure why or how it is, but coming from any place where you’ve been 10 years, to come here and learn the verbiage and learn as much as I have the past three weeks, I’ve done extremely well. It’s been fun, it’s been enjoyable.”
Ochocinco has made only two catches – although one was for a touchdown – in two games with the team. He caught just four touchdowns in two of his final three seasons in Cincinnati, breaking a five-year streak of at least seven per season.
Ochocinco rated himself a 7-out-of-10 so far in the pre-season, but said he has not yet reached his comfort zone.
“I’m just nowhere near where I want to be,” he said.
He knows he better get there or he will hear about it.
“You’re not my friends, you guys (the media) have a job to do and I understand that. I want you guys to critique the hell out of me,” he said.
“High profile, flashy, flamboyant players (you’re) supposed to come in a certain way ... I know you’re all going to kill me, especially here. Boston loves their sports. If I’m (messing) up, you’re going to get me.”
