Houston 27, New Orleans 14
Houston, TX - Arian Foster rushed five times for 47 yards and two touchdowns in the Houston Texans' 27-14 preseason victory over the New Orleans Saints. Ben Tate ran nine times for 95 yards and a score against the Saints' oft-porous run defense. Foster capped the Texan's seven-play, 72-yard opening drive with a two-yard touchdown run. Andre Johnson reeled in a 48-yard pass from Matt Schaub to begin Houston's second possession and Foster ended it with a 28-yard touchdown run. Schaub played until the waning minutes of the first half, completing 12-of-16 passes for 163 yards. Johnson had four catches for 100 yards. The Saints' first drive wasn't as successful. Drew Brees led the team into Houston territory before he fumbled the ball on a sack by Antonio Smith. Brees finished 7-for-14 for 109 yards.
San Francisco 17, Oakland 3
San Francisco, CA - Alex Smith threw for 126 yards on 8-of-13 passing with an interception and Kendall Hunter rushed nine times for 105 yards and a touchdown, leading the San Francisco 49ers past the Oakland Raiders, 17-3. Former New York Jet receiver Braylon Edwards caught two passes for 46 yards and standout tight end Vernon Davis grabbed two balls for 19 yards. Starting running back Frank Gore rushed four times for 21 yards. Former Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers connected on a 23-yard field goal for San Francisco. Jason Campbell completed five of seven passes for 74 yards before leaving the game in the second quarter with an injury after taking a sack. Trent Edwards came in and passed for 36 yards on 3-of-6 completions and Kyle Boller threw for 56 yards on 6-of-11 passing.
St. Louis 17, Tennessee 16
St. Louis, MO - Josh Brown kicked a 42-yard field goal on the game's final play to boost St. Louis to a 17-16 preseason win over the Tennessee Titans. Sam Bradford's first pass of the night, the opening play of the game, resulted in an 83-yard touchdown to Brandon Gibson. His third pass was picked off by Alterraun Verner, but the Rams starting QB hung in and played the first half, finishing 8-of-15 for 138 yards. Steven Jackson had six rushes for 10 yards for the Rams. Titans starter Matt Hasselbeck connected on 7-of-9 passes for 74 yards, but had the wind knocked out of him with 5 1/2 minutes left in the second quarter. He was attended to by medical staff, but walked off the field under his own power. Jake Locker replaced Hasselbeck and went 8-of-18 for 82 yards. Rookie Hamie Harper gained 83 yards on 11 carries and had a one-yard scoring run.
Denver 24, Buffalo 10
Denver, CO - Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn each looked sharp, while the Broncos limited the playing time for Tim Tebow in a 24-10 preseason win over the Buffalo Bills. Orton played into the second quarter and connected on 10-of-13 passes for 135 yards, including a 13-yard TD pass to Willis McGahee. He led Denver to a pair of touchdowns, the other a one-yard run from McGahee. Quinn was moved up to second string instead of Tebow for this game and came in for the final possession of the second quarter. He played the entire third quarter too and ended 10-of-16 for 130 yards with an interception, but also tossed a 24-yard pass for a score to Britt Davis. Tebow, who played the final quarter, attempted just two passes, completing one for 10 yards. Ryan Fitzpatrick went 6-of-16 for 44 yards and was picked off in the start for the Bills. He played the entire first half. Tyler Thigpen ended 11-of-20 for 118 yards and a 13-yard score to Felton Huggins in the fourth quarter. Brad Smith connected on all four of his passes. Bills running back Johnny White was carted off the field and taken to the hospital with an apparent head injury.
