Eagles Hall of Famer Pihos dies

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame wide receiver Pete Pihos died Tuesday morning after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 87 years old.

The Eagles' website said Pihos passed away in his sleep at Grace Healthcare in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Pihos spent his entire nine-year career with the Eagles, helping the team to consecutive NFL championships in 1948 and '49. He caught the winning touchdown pass in the 1949 NFL title game against the Rams.

A six-time Pro Bowl choice, Pihos led the NFL in receptions for three straight seasons from 1953-55. He compiled 373 career receptions for 6,519 yards and 61 touchdowns.

Pihos was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1970.
