SANTA CLARA, CALIF. - The San Francisco 49ers have signed wide receiver Braylon Edwards to a one-year contract for a reported $3.5 million.

"It's official Team17 we have moved to the bay. I'm a proud member of the San Francisco 49ers," Edwards said via Twitter.

Edwards, who was the subject of the report of a recent bar fight in Birmingham, Michigan, spent the past one-plus seasons for the New York Jets. He was the third overall pick in the 2005 draft by the Cleveland Browns, and was dealt to the Jets in October 2009.

In 16 games for the Jets last season, including 15 starts, he had 53 receptions for 904 yards and seven touchdowns.

"To the Jets fans that welcomed me with open arms & held me down for two years I thank you & will always love you!," Edwards tweeted.

The 28-year-old Edwards has 326 career receptions for 5,142 yards and 39 scores.
