Patriots sign Green-Ellis

FOXBORO, MASS. - The New England Patriots signed running backs BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Richard Medlin and offensive lineman Chris Morris and Jonathan Compas.

Green-Ellis had a breakout year in 2010, rushing for 1.008 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Pats. He became the 11th player in franchise history to rush for 1,000 yards or more in a season.

"I'm just happy to be back," Green-Ellis said. "I'm just happy to be here working as a Patriot."

Medlin, an undrafted rookie, played in 10 games for Fayetteville State in 2010 and gained 772 yards and scored five touchdowns.

Morris appeared in four games for the Panthers in 2010. Over his five-year career Morris has appeared in 51 games and made 11 starts.

Compas played in two games for Tampa Bay in 2009 and did not play in the NFL in 2010 after he was released by the Buccaneers.

New England also released running back Thomas Clayton and offensive lineman Mike Berry.
