FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - The New York Jets have signed linebacker David Harris to a long-term deal, reportedly for four years and worth $36 million.

The Jets placed the franchise tag on Harris prior to the NFL lockout.

"Last year they pretty much gave me their word that I would be a priority this upcoming year," Harris said during a news conference. "They followed up on their word. I'd just like to say thank you to them. Today's a great day."

Harris started all 16 games in 2010 and recorded 99 tackles and three sacks. He has registered 428 stops, 14 1/2 quarterback takedowns and two interceptions in his four seasons, all with New York.
