Eden Prairie, MN - The Minnesota Vikings will look again to a veteran quarterback after officially announcing Friday a trade to acquire Donovan McNabb from the Washington Redskins.

McNabb, who spent 11 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before his contentious 13-game stint with the Redskins, will wear his third uniform in three years.

The Vikings didn't announce specifics of the deal, but they reportedly sent two draft picks -- a sixth-round selection in 2012 and a conditional sixth- rounder in 2013 -- to Washington in exchange for the 34-year-old Syracuse product.

Also Friday, the Vikings announced the signing of defensive lineman Remi Ayodele, who had played the last three seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

McNabb will not be paid according to the five-year, $78 million contract he signed with Washington last season, reportedly agreeing to take less money to complete the trade to Minnesota.

The six-time Pro Bowl selection was traded to Washington following the 2009 season and after leading the Eagles to five NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl.

But McNabb struggled with the Redskins and drew heat for his performance in the wake a the lucrative contract. He completed 275-of-472 passes for 3,377 yards, 14 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 13 games. He was benched twice.

The Vikings, who were 6-10 last season, were in need of a starting quarterback after Brett Favre retired again. They selected QB Christian Ponder with the 12th overall pick in this year's draft.

"Excited to have McNabb join," Ponder said Wednesday on his official Twitter account. "Will learn a lot from a Pro Bowler. But that doesn't mean I'm not still fighting to start week 1!"

Over 161 career games, McNabb has completed 3,076 passes for 36,250 yards, 230 touchdowns and 115 interceptions.
