BALTIMORE - The Baltimore Ravens reportedly signed defensive tackle Haloti Ngata to a one-year franchise tender contract on Wednesday.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Ngata, who will make $12.476 million for the 2011 season, could sign a long-term contract under a new collective bargaining agreement. The current CBA expires late Thursday night. He was guaranteed the average salary of the top five-paid players at his position for next season.

The Ravens put the non-exclusive franchise tag on the two-time Pro Bowl selection on February 15, meaning Ngata could have negotiated and signed with another team. Baltimore would have had the right to match any offer or receive a pair of first-round draft picks as compensation.

Ngata was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2006 draft and just finished the final season of the five-year deal he signed as a rookie.

A force in the middle of Baltimore's line, Ngata had 63 tackles and a personal-best 5 1/2 sacks last season. He has 247 tackles and 12 sacks in 78 NFL games with the Ravens, including 76 starts.
