PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison reportedly underwent back surgery on Monday.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the 32-year-old had a discectomy to remove a piece of the herniated disc off a nerve which was causing Harrison discomfort the entire 2010 season.

The procedure was termed a "success" by head coach Mike Tomlin, the paper said.

Harrison, the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in the 2008 season, had 10 1/2 sacks, two interceptions and 100 total tackles over 16 starts last year for the AFC champion Steelers.
