Detroit - The National Football League has penalized the Detroit Lions for violating the league's anti-tampering policy, according to several sources.

The Detroit Free Press, as well as NFL.com, indicates the Lions have lost a seventh-round pick in the 2011 draft and will also switch fifth-round picks with Kansas City for publicly commenting on acquiring players under contract with the Chiefs.

Kansas City now owns the ninth selection in the fifth round and Detroit the 23rd.
