New York - The NFL has offered a third option to fans who held a ticket to Super Bowl XLV but did not receive a seat to the game.

NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the league e-mailed the 400 fans Tuesday morning with the newest option -- either $5,000 or reimbursement for expenses, whichever figure is greater.

The e-mail said the reimbursement would be for "actual substantiated expenses in defined categories for attending Super Bowl XLV." The league offered the third option after listening to feedback from the fans, according to the e- mail.

Previously, the NFL offered fans two options. The first is one free ticket to the next Super Bowl, plus $2,400 cash -- three times the face value of the Super Bowl XLV game ticket. The second provides one free ticket to a future Super Bowl of the fan's choice, plus round-trip economy class airfare and hotel accommodations for four nights.
