FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets have placed the franchise tag on linebacker David Harris.

The franchise tag ensures that Harris will be paid the average of the five highest-paid linebackers in the league for the 2011 season.

The designation also gives the two sides more time to work on a long-term contract if they choose to do so.

Harris started all 16 games this past season and recorded 99 tackles and three sacks. He has registered 428 stops, 14.5 quarterback takedowns and two interceptions in his four seasons, all with New York.
