RENTON, Wash. -- Matt Hasselbeck will start at quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks in Saturday's wild card playoff game against New Orleans, head coach Pete Carroll announced after Thursday's practice.

"I told him on Monday he was going to start if he made it through the week," Carroll said.

Hasselbeck did not play in last Sunday's NFC West division-clinching win over St. Louis after suffering a hip injury in a loss to Tampa Bay the previous week.

Charlie Whitehurst stepped in and completed 22-of-36 throws for 192 yards and the game's only touchdown in the 16-6 victory that sent Seattle to the post-season.

Hasselbeck threw for 3,001 yards and 12 touchdowns, while being intercepted 17 times, in 14 starts this season for Seattle.

The 12-year veteran guided the Seahawks to the playoffs each season from 2003-07, including a Super Bowl appearance following the 2005 campaign.
