If the Pittsburgh Steelers trip over a piece of turf spoiling their way to the Super Bowl they can blame Gary Bettman.
The NHL is paying to have the turf at Heinz Field replaced in time for the division playoff Jan. 15. It seems the damage done by constructing a hockey rink for the Winter Classic made the field unplayable.
So, the NHL is on the hook for the $100,000 cost of having it re-sodded. It's expected to be installed by Saturday.
Imagine. The folks in Pittsburgh getting a chance to call Bettman and tell him it was time to sod off. Literally. In Hamilton an entire city dreams that it could only happen to them.
