CINCINNATI -- Marvin Lewis will return as head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals, the team announced Tuesday afternoon on its Twitter account.

The two sides met multiple times on Tuesday before coming to an agreement. Lewis' contract had expired at the end of a dismal 4-12 season in 2010.

During his time in Cincinnati, Lewis has compiled a 60-67-1 regular season record. The Bengals have had just two winning seasons under Lewis -- 2005 (11-5) and '09 (10-6).

Cincy won the AFC North in each of those years, but both resulted with an exit in the opening round of the playoffs.

Lewis reportedly wants to change how the organization operates.
