CINCINNATI - Chargers running back Mike Tolbert was carted off the field following a hard collision with Bengals safety Reggie Nelson during the first quarter of Sunday's 34-20 loss and did not return.

Tolbert has been diagnosed with a neck injury and did not return, however, he was able to move some extremities and gave a thumbs-up to the crowd while being wheeled off the field.

"He's doing fine," Chargers head coach Norv Turner said of Tolbert after the game. "He's got all feeling in his hands. He'll be alright."

During the play, Tolbert took the ball around the left side and lowered his head and ran into Nelson's chest. He lost the ball and Cincinnati recovered, but the running back remained motionless long after the play.

Rookie running back Ryan Matthews ended the game in the Chargers backfield where he rushed for 55 yards on 12 carries.
