EDEN PRAIRIE, MN - Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will not play in Monday night's game against the Chicago Bears.

Interim head coach Leslie Frazier said Saturday that Favre tried to "do some things prior to practice but the shoulder, the arm is not quite where it needs to be."

Favre suffered an SC sprain to his right shoulder on his first pass attempt during the Vikings' win over Buffalo two weeks ago and missed the remainder of the contest.

He then had his record streak of 297 consecutive regular-season starts come to an end after missing last Monday's 21-3 loss to the New York Giants.

"Some of the pain has subsided from a week ago," Frazier said of the 41-year- old signal caller's attempted recovery. "He's gradually getting better but not enough to where you could put him out there to play."

Joe Webb will get the start in Favre's place.

"He had a good day, I'm really pleased with the progress he's made," Frazier said about the rookie from Alabama-Birmingham. "He really seems as if this whole thing is not too big for him. I'm really looking forward to watching him play on Monday night."

Webb completed 2-of-5 passes for eight yards in relief of Tarvaris Jackson on Monday night in his first NFL action.
