BEREA, Ohio -- Colt McCoy returned to the practice field Friday but will likely remain on the sideline for Sunday's game at Buffalo, leading the way for Jake Delhomme to make his third straight start at quarterback.

Delhomme has led Cleveland to a pair of victories over Carolina and Miami the last two weeks as McCoy nursed an injured ankle he suffered against Jacksonville on Nov. 21. The rookie signal-caller had started five consecutive games and could be the team's emergency QB on Sunday.

The veteran Delhomme opened the campaign as the starter but went down with a high ankle sprain in the season-opener against Tampa Bay. He played mistake-free football in last week's 13-10 win over Miami, throwing for 217 yards and a touchdown for a 97.3 quarterback rating.

McCoy took over as the starter in Week 6 and has thrown for 975 yards with three TDs and three interceptions.
