NEW YORK -- New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs has been fined $20,000 by the National Football League for unsportsmanlike conduct toward fans.

NFC information manager Randall Liu said in an e-mail that prior to last week's game against the Eagles in Philadelphia, "Jacobs was observed by an NFL security representative making obscene gestures and yelling obscenities toward fans in the stands."

Liu said that Ray Anderson, NFL executive vice president of football operations, sent Jacobs a letter saying the actions were "unprofessional and unbecoming as an NFL player" and that "repeated violations will result in increased disciplinary action, which may include suspension for conduct detrimental to the league."

It was the second time this season that Jacobs was cited for unsportsmanlike conduct toward fans. Jacobs was fined $10,000 for heaving his helmet into the stands during the Giants' Week 2 loss at Indianapolis.
