PITTSBURGH -- Veteran kicker Jeff Reed was waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday after missing seven of his 22 field goal attempts this season.

The team signed Shaun Suisham to a one-year contract to replace Reed. He last kicked with Dallas and Washington in 2009,

Reed was franchised by the Steelers and signed a one-year tender in the offseason after making 27 of 31 field goal attempts last season.

He was in his ninth NFL season, all with the Steelers, and ranks second on the club's all-time list with 919 career points.

On Sunday against New England, Reed missed a 26-yard field goal attempt. He has missed at least one field goal try in each of the last three games.

Suisham returns to the team that originally signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Bowling Green in 2005. He never kicked for Pittsburgh, but played for the Cowboys during two different stints and also for the Redskins.

The 28-year-old has made 79.1 percent (87 of 110) of his field goal attempts in the NFL.
