FOXBORO, Mass. -- The New England Patriots have signed kicker Shayne Graham to replace Stephen Gostkowski, who was placed on injured reserve because of a thigh injury.

Graham, in his 10th NFL season, appeared in one game for the New York Giants this year. He replaced an injured Lawrence Tynes for the Oct. 17 contest against Detroit and kicked four extra points in a 28-20 win. The Giants released him the next day.

The Virginia Tech product kicked for Cincinnati from 2003-09 and has also spent time with Carolina and Buffalo. He signed with Baltimore this summer, but lost a training camp battle with Billy Cundiff.

Graham has converted 196-of-230 career field goals for an 85.2 percentage.

Gostkowski left this past Sunday's 34-14 loss to Cleveland in the second quarter. This season he had made 10-of-13 field goal attempts with a long of 43 yards and was a perfect on 26 extra-point tries.

The Pats also signed long snapper Matt Katula, who played five seasons with Baltimore, while releasing long snapper Jake Ingram. Ingram was selected in the sixth round of the 2009 draft out of Hawaii and had handled the long snapping duties for 24 games during the last two seasons.

Katula was waived by the Ravens on Aug. 14 and has played 80 NFL regular- season games and six postseason games.
