Jake Delhomme had to come to the rescue of injured Seneca Wallace.
This is a bit like asking the Big Bad Wolf if he’d give that little girl, Red, a hand with her basket of goodies.
Something bad is gonna happen.
And, it didn’t take long before the Cleveland Browns were getting blown out of their house.
Atlanta defensive end Kroy Biermann knocked down a Delhomme pass, then made a diving catch on his own deflection, got up and rumbled 31 yards on a twisting, torturous path to the end zone.
That sent the Browns to a 20-10 loss and continued Delhomme’s fall from grace as a proficient NFL quarterback. His QB rating yesterday was 30.5 on 13 of 23 for a minuscule 97 yards. The Browns were in this game as long as Wallace was in the game, averaging more than nine yards per pass play. But when he limped off, so too were done any thoughts of an upset.
Matt Ryan threw a 45-yard TD pass to Roddy White as the Falcons (4-1) won their fourth straight. Michael Turner rushed for 140 yards. The Browns picked up just 48 yards rushing
Injured himself, Delhomme hadn’t played since the season opener. There are Cleveland backers who wish the streak was still intact.
