Ravens outrush hapless Broncos

The Baltimore Ravens did more than just stomp and romp over the Denver Broncos.

They ran the visitors all the way out of town.

The Bronco defence might find more than a few cleatmarks on the back of their jerseys when they arrive back in the Mile High City after the Ravens ground game steamrolled over them en route to a 31-17 victory in Baltimore.

The Ravens outrushed the hapless Broncos, 2-3, by a humiliating 233 to 39 margin in yards and racked up four touchdowns on the ground, including a rare scoring run by quarterback Joe Flacco. In the process, the Ravens grinded out an amazing five drives of 70-plus yards each.

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels carries so much swagger, you almost get the impression he thinks he invented the forward pass.

Maybe so. But here's some advice, coach: If you don't find a running game, you'll start to see the opposition running up the score on you like the Ravens did Sunday.

The Broncos pathetic ground attack should get a boost with the expected return of No. 1 running back Knowshon Moreno from a hamstring injury next week. Let's see if McDaniels smartens up and uses him.

The Ravens, meanwhile, are quickly establishing themselves as an elite team, if not THE elite team, in the AFC. The New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers must also be part of that conversation but keep in mind that the Ravens already have wins at the Jets and at Pittsburgh in their back pocket, a huge advantage if there is a need for tiebreakers at the conclusion of the regular season.

Next up for the Ravens: the New England Patriots, who will be playing their first game in the post-Randy Moss era.

There won't be any Ravens shedding tears that the Superfreak won't be in the Pats lineup, that's for sure.
