Difficult loss to 'finger' out

Maybe he was just sending in a play?

Somehow, the NFL's commissioner isn't likely to buy that argument. Tennessee's defensive co-ordinator resorted to some unusual hand signals Sunday. Chuck Cecil showed officials the middle finger when he took exception to a penalty flag for encroachment against the Titans defence. The move came early in a 26-20 loss to the Denver Broncos. It's going to cost him, too.

Last year, Titans owner Bud Adams was fined $250,000 US for giving two middle fingers in the direction of the Buffalo sideline. A league spokesman said a fine will depend on circumstances but it'll be hefty.

Complicating matters is that Cecil previously has been arrested for driving under the influence. That already wouldn't endear him to commissioner Roger Goodell. As it turns out, the Titans might need a stiff belt after this one.

Broncos' Kyle Orton threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Correll Buckhalter with 1:33 left. The Broncos then recovered a fumble by Marc Mariani on the ensuing kickoff and booted a field goal to clinch it.
