Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Kassim Osgood had to use his cat-like abilities to evade an armed attacker while he was visiting a female friend late Monday.

The Pro Bowler, who played seven years with the San Diego Chargers before signing with the Jags, and Mackenzie Rae Putnal were watching television in a second-floor game room when a man burst in wearing a plastic bag for a mask and pointed a gun at them, according to The Florida Times-Union.

"I can't believe you're with that guy," the gunman said as he dragged Putnal around the room by her hair, beat her with the gun and his fists and pistol-whipped Osgood, the arrest report said.

While the man took Putnal's cell phone, she tried to flee. He tackled her and held his gun to both her and Osgood's heads. He also repeatedly hit the woman's dog.

The gunman ordered them to sit on the floor, but Putnal escaped down the hall and leaped over a balcony to the floor below.

The gunman chased after her, and Osgood jammed the game room door shut before leaping out a window to the lawn below. He ran to a neighbouring house to call police.

Meanwhile, Putnal had acquired a gun with a laser sight and exchanged fire with the attacker. Neither was hit.

Putnal called police as the gunman fled, but he was later arrested at his home.
