JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed quarterback Trent Edwards off waivers from the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday.

Edwards, waived by the Bills on Monday, had been supplanted as starter by Ryan Fitzpatrick after completing 29-of-52 passes for 241 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in two games this season. The Jaguars are now responsible for the $1.65 million on the final year of his current contract.

He will be brought in to provide a spark for current starter David Garrard, who was just 13-of-30 for 105 yards and a pick in Sunday's 28-3 home loss to the Eagles.

For the season, Garrard is 44-of-74 for 448 yards, four TDs and five picks.

Luke McCown started the year as the Jaguars' backup signal-caller, but he tore the ACL in his right knee in Week 2 against San Diego. Jacksonville signed Todd Bouman last Tuesday.

In order to clear roster space for Edwards, the Jags waived linebacker Alvin Bowen. The 26-year-old played sparingly in two games this season.
