DETROIT -- Shaun Hill will get the starting nod at quarterback for the Detroit Lions on Sunday in their home opener against Philadelphia.

Hill will start in place of Matthew Stafford, who suffered a right shoulder injury in last week's season starter against Chicago.

After taking over for Stafford, Hill completed 9-of-19 passes for 88 yards and was intercepted once. He almost led the Lions on a game-winning drive in the final minute before Calvin Johnson's apparent decisive score was nullified by the instant replay process.

"The reason we brought him here is for a situation like this," head coach Jim Schwartz said about the Maryland product. "Not only the second half of the opener, but if there was a situation where Matt wasn't able to play on a Sunday, Shaun can go in. He gives us an experienced player, and we have full confidence in him."
