Week one of the NFL season is just over 15 weeks away and we’ve already got “the” game of Week 1.
It will be Minnesota vs. New Orleans on Thurs. Sept. 9, which also happens to be the league season opener.
The game was already going to be one everyone circled based on the fact that the same two teams met in last year’s NFC final, a 31-28 OT thriller won by the Saints.
Darren Sharper took the coming season’s game to another level when he started tweeting about “X-marks-the-spot” reacting to the news that Brett Favre had surgery on his ankle.
Visanthe Shiancoe, who spends a good portion of his workdays protecting Favre, naturally took offence to this and sent word back that Sharper, who had off-season surgery of his own on his knee, also had an “X” the Vikings could target.
This started off a back-and-forth that seems to have ended with Sharper suggesting Shiancoe put his game cheque on the line in an effort to stop all the talking.
If they’re getting this worked up about a game that is still well over three months away, can you imagine how wound up they’ll be come game time?
