HUMOUR NOT LOST ON AGELESS VINNY
Vinny Testaverde has heard the old-man jokes before and he got a bunch more this week in advance of his possible start for the Carolina Panthers.
When the veteran played his first NFL game (Sept. 20, 1987), 10 of his latest teammates were literally in diapers.
"Heard a few as I'm walking to the line of scrimmage," Testaverde said of the wisecracks. "I'm just surprised that people are still interested in a 44-year old quarterback who hasn't played in five or six weeks.''
With incumbent David Carr's (sore back) status downgraded to questionable, the Panthers likely will decide between Testaverde and undrafted rookie Matt Moore.
One of the many reasons Tom Brady is having such a big year for the Patriots is the stellar work of the offensive line, which has allowed just three sacks.
Included in that bunch is Brantford, Ont., native Nick Kaczur, a former Argos draft pick, now in his third season with the Pats. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound tackle has started all five games for the Pats.
HIGH PRAISE FOR ROMO
How far has Dallas quarterback Tony Romo come? A year ago he had yet to throw a pass in his NFL career.
Now, all of a sudden, he's being likened to legends in the Lone Star State.
"He's going to be as good a quarterback as the Cowboys have ever had," says one of the best, hall of famer Roger Staubach. "He's going to be a championship quarterback in this league."
One fact Cowboys lovers can hang their hat on: Wade Phillips has a 3-1 career edge on Pats' Bill Belichick ... Life doesn't get much easier for the winless New Orleans Saints, who are back in action after their bye week but have to travel to Seattle. The Seahawks, who were skunked 21-0 by Pittsburgh last week, are 31-7 at home since the 2003 season ... The suddenly woeful Cincinnati Bengals have lost six of their past seven and 11 of their past 17.
