Vick must pay the price

I've got a very appropriate new career suggestion for canine serial killer Michael Vick.

Since he's into bloodsport so much, he should take up ultimate fighting and give the dog-loving UFC scrappers a chance to beat the living daylights out of him every time he steps in the ring.

What an absolute scumball this guy is.

GARBAGE

If justice prevails, he will go to jail, lose his football career and all those lucrative endorsements with it, then live long and miserably.

I'm just warming up.

There are some commentators out there saying, as I heard on some sports interview a couple of nights ago, that punishing Vick this severely is "putting the rights of animals ahead of human rights." The argument is other athletes are doing horrible things to humans and getting punished less for it, so what's with the overkill on Vick?

I think that's a bunch of garbage.

This is about what one of the most privileged people in the U.S. chose to do to these animals for greed and sadistic fun. Human abuse comparisons are irrelevant.

This is about cruelty and consequences, and I hope Vick pays the maximum price possible, which sadly in animal cases is often woefully insufficient.

So much of humankind just doesn't get it about the rights of the non-humans we share this planet with.

But hey, they're just dogs, right? We train some as seeing-eye companions, others to put their lives on the line with the police and in the military, to find victims at Ground Zero, to share the love they're all capable of as family members in our homes, and then along comes a creep like Vick and trains them to fight to the death for human entertainment and profit.

You can train people to do the same thing; only difference is, they usually have a choice as to whether they want to participate.

Animals have no choice. Unbeknownst to them, they are dependant on us humans not to exploit them for our own often sick purposes.

It's bad enough we hunt them for fun, not need. That we torture and victimize them in "sports" like bullfighting; release birds to blast out of the sky when the clay targets become too boring (done locally by the way); and trapping them for their fur -- one ironic purpose being to make "cool" people in warm climates look even "cooler".

But when you train them to maim and kill each other for our amusement (and profit), hopefully we have reached a point in our civil development where those found guilty of perpetrating animal pain, mutilation and death for profit will suffer appropriate consequences.

Yep, it's time to stick it to Vick, and make him pay in every possible way.

REDEMPTION

Some feel he deserves a chance at redemption, a second chance if he sees the error of his ways, shows remorse, and does what he can to make amends. I'm for almost anyone earning a second chance, but it would have to be sincere and proven by action -- like advocating for animal rights the rest of his life, not just token words. He'd have to do much more than simply present the appearance of penance, for profit.

Even then, how does that lessen the agony of the animals he's already tortured? To jail with the jerk. The rest is up to him.
