STEVE COAD'S NFL PICKS

Minnesota (5-6) at Chicago (9-2)

The line: Bears by 9

The skinny: Sunday, 1 p.m. Da Bears are coming off a loss. The week following their only other setback, they came out growling and clawed the New York Giants by 18. Look out, Vikes.

Cody's call: Bears 27-13

New York Jets (6-5) at Green Bay (4-7)

The line: Jets by 1 1/2

The skinny: Sunday, 1 p.m. The Packers are 1-4 this season at once-lucky Lambeau. But, hey, don't blame their park. Things would be different if the Pack could run the ball and play defence.

Cody's call: Jets 23-19

Atlanta (5-6) at Washington (4-7)

The line: Redskins by 2

The skinny: Sunday, 1 p.m. The Falcons are ripe for the picking. They're plagued by a lack of identity -- do we run it or do we pass it? -- on the field and distractions off it.

Cody's call: Redskins 24-21

Arizona (2-9) at St. Louis (5-6)

The line: Rams by 6 1/2

The skinny: Sunday, 1 p.m. Marc Bulger rallied the Rams Sunday; Matt Leinart tried hard but came up short.

Cody's calls: Rams 21-17

Indianapolis (10-1) at Tennessee (4-7)

The line: Colts by 7 1/2

The skinny: Sunday, 1 p.m. Peyton Manning (the present) vs. Vince Young (the future) offers an intriguing matchup. Great football game? Probably not.

Cody's call: Colts 30-17

San Diego (9-2) at Buffalo (5-6)

The line: Chargers by 6

The skinny: Sunday, 1 p.m. Buffalo needs a whole lot snow -- fast -- or the Bills will be caught in an avalanche.

Cody's call: Chargers 31-20

Detroit (2-9) at New England (8-3)

The line: Patriots by 13 1/2

The skinny: Sunday, 1 p.m. The Patriots have something old (their mystique is back) and something new (turf at Gillette Stadium), meaning the Lions will be left buried and blue.

Cody's call: Pats 27-10

San Francisco (5-6) at New Orleans (7-4)

The line: Saints by 7

The skinny: Sunday, 1 p.m. With Drew Brees playing at such a high level these days, the Saints can weather just about anything.

Cody's call: Saints 24-21

Kansas City (7-4) at Cleveland (3-8)

The line: Chiefs by 5

The skinny: Sunday, p.m. The Chiefs aren't exactly road warriors (2-3) but then again the Brownies are hellish (1-5) at home.

Cody's call: Chiefs 20-17

Jacksonville (6-5) at Miami (5-6)

The line: Dolphins by 1 1/2

The skinny: Sunday, 4:05 p.m. Surprisingly, QB Joey Harrington has led the Dolphins to four straight wins. That torrid spell ends this week.

Cody's call: Jaguars 23-21

Houston (3-8) at Oakland (2-9)

The line: Raiders by 3

The skinny: Sunday, 4:05 p.m. Now here's an offence the Raiders can beat up on.

Cody's call: Raiders 20-13

Dallas (7-4) at New York Giants (6-5)

The line: Cowboys by 3 1/2

The skinny: Sunday, 4:15 p.m. The Cowboys have thrown down the gauntlet to the rest of the NFC East, including the Giants. The New Yorkers will answer in this one.

Cody's call: Giants 27-23

Tampa Bay (3-8) at Pittsburgh (4-7)

The line: Steelers by 7 1/2

The skinny: Sunday, 4:15 p.m. The Steelers are all but done, but they'll fight till it's official.

Cody's call: Steelers 24-14

Seattle (7-4) at Denver (7-4)

The line: Broncos by 3

The skinny: Sunday, 8:15 p.m. (TSN). They did it in Dallas and it turned the Cowboys around. Now Denver will shuffle QBs -- Jay Cutler in; Jake Plummer out -- a switch that can't hurt.

Cody's call: Broncos 23-21

Carolina (6-5) at Philadelphia (5-6)

The line: No line

The skinny: Monday, 8:30 p.m. (TSN, NBC). Injuries, especially Donovan McNabb's blown ACL, have rung Philly's bell; inconsistency has killed the Panthers. Carolina, many people's pick to win the NFC, is running out of time.

Cody's call: Panthers 23-16
