The National Football League could be returning to B.C. Place Stadium.

This time, it would be for real.

NFL said Tuesday it would play as many as two regular season games outside the United States beginning in 2007.

San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks played the American Bowl exhibition game under the dome in 1998, but the event was marred by a Budweiser-fueled riot in level two's west end and an appearance by the Backstreet Boys.

Lions' president Bob Ackles said Vancouver could be in the running with Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton for a 2008 game. The NFL is also looking at Mexico, England and Germany.

"We would certainly welcome a game," Ackles said. "It would be great for our season ticket holders."

NFL's global marketing plan includes an exhibition game next August in Beijing's Workers' Stadium between the Seahawks and New England Patriots.

Lions have already sold 31,000 tickets to Saturday's regular season finale against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Kickoff is 7 p.m. First-place Lions will host the Scotiabank West Championship on Nov. 12.
