Dan Federkeil continues to make history.

The former U of C football standout was named to the Indianapolis Colts' practice roster yesterday, becoming the first Dino to be named to a National Football League team roster to start the regular season.

Practice roster players receive a stipend of $4,700 US, meaning around $70,000 for the course of the season, nearly double the CFL minimum salary.

Federkeil, a 6-ft. 7-in., 295-lb. offensive lineman from Medicine Hat, was named to one of the only eight practice roster positions.

Players on the practice roster can be claimed by another team, but if they are, the team that claims them must put the player on their 53-player active roster.

Signed by the Colts as a free agent, the five-year starter at the U of C -- where he played defensive line -- dressed for three of Indianapolis's four pre-season games.

Federkeil was drafted fifth overall by the Toronto Argonauts in the 2006 CFL Draft.
