The deal with ... top prospects

A quick look at prospects gathering the most buzz in advance of today's NFL draft:

- Reggie Bush, RB, USC: A threat to run, catch and return kicks, the USC star was expected to go first overall until the Texans opted for Mario Williams. There is still some question marks as to whether he is a pro-style running back.

- Mario Williams, DE, North Carolina State: Sack machine has been likened to Panthers star Julius Peppers. Seen as much more of a sure thing at his position and that is why the Texans opted for him.

- Vince Young, QB Texas: The Titans reportedly are high on the guy acknowleged as the most physically gifted offensive talent on the board. Can he fit the pro game and does he have the smarts to be a QB at the highest level, however?

- D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Tackle, Virginia: Talented pass blocker could go as high as No. 2 if the Saints want insurance for the millions they paid to free agent quarterback Drew Brees.

- Matt Leinart, QB, USC: His stock may have slipped some, but he fits in a pro style offence even with a so-so arm. Might the Jets consider him at No. 4 to make a splash in NYC?

- A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio State: Raw ability and wild style allow him to cover the field and keep offences guessing. Could make an immediate impact on a team as Shawne Merriman did with the Chargers last year.

- Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt: Shone despite playing on a lousy, losing team behind a pitiful offensive line. Scouts have drooled so much he is the sleeper pick to go higher.

- Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon: We mention him for Bills fans. Many mock drafts have the big-load run-stuffer going to Buffalo but don't be surprised if new (but old) general manager Marv Levy deals the pick.
