WINNING IT

A Saturday afternoon of parlay bets turned into a remarkable ride.

From Major League Baseball to college football, everything fell perfectly into place.

"I won $150,000 one day last October," he said.

WAGING IT

Super Bowl XL became an XL mistake.

"I bet the underdog and I lost," he explained with no expression in his voice.

Allen had almost $80,000 tied to the Seattle Seahawks.

"I bet $50,000 on the team, $20,000 on the over/under and a number of dollars on props. "For example, I bet that Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck would throw over 237 yards."

But Allen recovered the major loss before the end of the night.

"I won $100,000 playing poker that night, so it didn't matter."

LOSING IT

It was almost 20 years ago, but it still burns today.

"I had a Sports Select ticket where I was a 21-0 favourite in the fourth quarter and the three-game ticket was worth $9,000," said Allen, "and the game ended being a tie and I lost."

"It was 24-14 and on the last play they throw a touchdown and they tied 24-21."

(A football game in Sports Select is a tie if the total score is within three points.)
