The bus nears final stop.

The first hint that this may be Jerome Bettis' swan-song season for the Steelers came at training camp.

The burly running back handed out T-shirts to his teammates proclaiming Super Bowl XL in Detroit as the potential "The Last Bus Stop."

When Bettis hits Heinz Field for tomorrow's game against the Detroit Lions, The Bus knows it may be his final game in front of Pittsburgh's rabid football fans.

"Every year for the past three years, I thought it could be my last so I've picked up (some stadium) grass," Bettis said. "I did that two years ago, did it last year and I'm doing it this year because I don't know when it's over."

With a win over the Lions, the Steelers will clinch a playoff spot. But the AFC's top seed will be a wild card and will play all games on the road.

SACK THE CELEBRATION

Cleveland Browns coach Romeo Crennel was less than impressed with defensive end Alvin McKinley's sack celebration last week.

His team was losing 17-0 at the time, well down the path toward a 41-0 destruction at the hands of the Steelers.

"What do you have to celebrate?" Crennel said. "You look around the NFL and that happens all of the time now. Teams are losing and guys are making plays and doing something.

"That seems to be the culture of the NFL."

QUOTABLE

"What are you going to do, watch a movie?"

-- Cowboys quarterback Drew Bledsoe when asked whether he'll be watching early games tomorrow when his team's playoff fate could be decided.

GET THE MANNING

The Oakland Raiders are on the end of a miserable season but wouldn't mind to inflict a mercy killing tonight.

The intended prey will be New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who needs to lead his team to a win to guarantee the NFC East title.

"It's fun getting after a guy of such high status in this league," Raiders linebacker Danny Clark said. "He comes from a great bloodline. Any time you line up against Peyton or Eli, you kind of want to step your game up."
