Ricky getting into details

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams is gradually getting up to speed after his year's sabbatical to travel the world.

Though Slick Rick isn't as powerful as he was when he was borderline dominant in 2002 and '03, at least he is contributing again.

In the Dolphins' past two games, Williams has surpassed 80 yards on the ground and could be sitting on his first 100-yard effort of the season when he faces the questionable run defence of the Buffalo Bills tomorrow.

"In the past, I was so good that I didn't think about the little details that went into a play," Williams said of the difference between then and now. "Now I'm learning to pay attention to the details of how a play is really supposed to be run."

HEAD GAMES?

As division rivals go, the Carolina Panthers haven't been much of one for the Atlanta Falcons.

Despite going to the Super Bowl two seasons ago, the Panthers have just one win over quarterback Michael Vick's crew in the past five years.

So, are the Panthers psyched out when it comes to playing their NFC South brethren, as they will twice in the final five weeks, including tomorrow's date at the Georgia Dome?

"I'm not going to answer that question," Panthers defensive tackle Brentson Buckner said.

"I'm a grown man. Nobody is going to get in my head. Are you serious?

"The best team will win. Contrary to what (the media) wants to believe, it's not just one man (Vick) down in Atlanta."

GIANT TASK

Another first-place battle of divisional rivals takes place at the Meadowlands tomorrow when the Dallas Cowboys meet the New York Giants.

The Cowboys, who are 2-7 in their past nine trips to the Jersey swamp, recognize the importance of snapping that trend to get the upper hand in the tight NFC East .

"Whichever team wins is going to have a huge edge, but we would have a bigger advantage because we would be two games up," Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said, referring to the tiebreaker Dallas would hold from winning both meetings this season.
