Referee injured after game's second play

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Veteran referee Johnny Grier left Sunday's game between the Tennessee Titans and the Cincinnati Bengals with an apparent leg injury.

After the second play of the game, a 9-yard pass from Cincinnati's Carson Palmer to Chad Johnson, Grier limped to the Titans' sidelines. He was examined by a team doctor and then headed to the locker room.

Grier, in his 23rd season, left a game he was refereeing between New England and Buffalo on Oct. 3 when he tore a muscle in his right calf.

Just like in that game, back judge Scott Green took over for Grier on Sunday.

On the first play after Grier's departure officials called a false start penalty on the Bengals. However, Green didn't have a microphone and wasn't able to announce the penalty to the crowd.
