Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Alabama Crimson Tide BCS game hype is warrantedShowdown has all the elements of a classic, and it can't happen soon enough

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. - There was a different kind of hangover here on Wednesday, a day later than the more common strain and having nothing to do with being over-served.
Before the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Alabama Crimson Tide touched down less than an hour apart at different South Florida airports, the lingering football bad taste was of Tuesday’s Orange Bowl played at the same stadium where next Monday’s national championship will be settled.
As much as the Bowl Championship Series has been able to get the opponents for the big game right, too many of the others get watered down to the point of irrelevance.
It’s even worse when a supposedly big game like the Orange Bowl gets tainted. Tuesday’s blowout win came by an indifferent Florida State against an overmatched Northern Illinois team that validated those who criticized its credentials to be anywhere near a BCS contest.
