Here’s a look at the top five contenders for the Heisman Trophy after Week 3 action:

1. Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia, senior (+200)

Well, well, well … look, it’s my pick. Smith has nine touchdown passes and nine incompletions in two games so far.

Next up: Saturday vs. Maryland

2. De’Anthony Thomas, RB, Oregon, sophomore (+500)

He’s averaging a ridiculous 15.3 yards per touch. Wait until they start using him more when the games matter.

Next up: Saturday vs. Arizona

3. Collin Klein, QB, Kansas State, senior (+1500)

This is the week. Klein either sticks his nose in the middle of the race or drops out completely.

Next up: Saturday at Oklahoma

4. Jonathan Franklin, RB, UCLA, senior (no line)

Offshore books clearly aren’t sold on the Bruins, as the Los Angeles native isn’t even on the board.

Next up: Saturday vs. Oregon State

5. Matt Barkley, QB, USC, senior (+150)

He’s got a long climb back, but it’s been done before. Still the favourite at some books.

Next up: Saturday vs. California

In the mix: Braxton Miller, QB, Ohio State (+1400); Tajh Boyd, QB, Clemson (+1400); Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma (+1500); Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia (+2000); Stepfan Taylor, RB, Stanford (no line).
